We are very excited to be celebrating our 2025 law writing award winners and welcoming our first-place winner to the 2025 Annual Conference in Halifax, NS. For over 20 years, the IIC Law Student Writing Award program has helped students across Canada foster an interest in insolvency law. Through this program, undergraduate students are given the opportunity to research insolvency issues and bring their proposals, analysis and ideas to the attention of the business and legal community that they are about to enter. Monetary prizes are awarded to the top three papers, with the first-place winner also being invited
Update from the IIC Intervention Committee
The Insolvency Institute of Canada (IIC) has intervened in two significant appeals before the Quebec Court of Appeal, both arising from the Valeo Pharma Inc. CCAA proceedings. The original appeal, scheduled for hearing on October 29, 2025, concerns the suspension of continuous disclosure obligations in CCAA proceedings and the role of securities regulators such as the Autorité des marchés financiers and the Ontario Securities Commission. The IIC’s position is that, while regulatory oversight is important, the CCAA Court must retain primary jurisdiction to balance the interests of all stakeholders and to craft orders that facilitate effective restructurings.
