The Insolvency Institute of Canada’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee was established in 2022. Its mandate is to consider and make recommendations on policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives that would promote equity, diversity, and inclusiveness within the IIC and externally, with a view to fostering and promoting the diversity of candidates within the insolvency profession seeking admission to the IIC.
The committee meets bi-monthly to discuss and plan programming and develop new initiatives that fall under its mandate. DEI Committee initiatives have included hosting Future Leader events across Canada for up-and-coming members in the profession, holding webinars on issues such as DEI in the workplace and mental health in the insolvency profession, and creating the regional Financial Advisor Pitch Competition. As part of the IIC’s 20th anniversary of the Law Student Writing Awards in 2024, the DEI Committee launched the ‘In Our Winner’s Words’ social media campaign that highlighted our past winners.
